Before a Family Thanksgiving Dinner, a Stranger Sent Me Roasted Turkey with a Note: ‘Thank You for Sharing Your Husband with Me’

Thanksgiving morning was bustling as I prepared for the big family dinner. Everything seemed perfect until a knock at the door revealed a delivery—a beautifully roasted turkey with an elegant note attached. Curious, I opened it. The words stopped me cold: “Thank you for sharing your husband with me.”

My mind raced. Was this a cruel joke? A misunderstanding? My husband, equally puzzled, stood frozen as I showed him the note. Together, we read it again and spotted a tiny logo at the bottom. It was from a volunteer organization he had been working with.

As it turned out, the turkey and the note were sent by a single mother my husband had helped. He’d spent weeks repairing her car so she could get to work and provide for her kids. She wanted to express her gratitude, not realizing how her choice of words might sound.

Relief and laughter swept over us. That evening, as we shared her turkey with our family, the story became the highlight of the meal. It was a reminder that gratitude can come in unexpected—and sometimes hilariously awkward—ways.
